El Centro’s President and CEO, Irene Caudillo, shared her thoughts and experiences as part of a discussion entitled “Latinas Perspective on Women’s Equality in the U.S.” The event took place last week in recognition of Women’s Equality Week and in partnership with the Johnson County Latino Leadership Network.
“I am glad the participants were able to hear my story,” Irene stated. She continued by saying, “The women I sat with on the panel had so many similarities it was frightening, but I think that is what I meant when I said though it was my story the similarities of immigrants coming to this country shifts in a lot of ways, yet culture and family are its foundation. ”
Women’s Equality week celebrates the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting American women the right to vote and was ratified on August 18, 1920.
